Introduction to Job Search
Using a Job Center to Guide Your Search
Introduction to job search
Online job centers are equivalent to job sites like Monster and Workopolis. However, there are still some offline job centers left that you can use for guidance and assistance in finding the job of your dreams. These types of job centers may not be as prevalent in modern society as they were just a decade ago, but there are some important elements to them that still make them a good choice to pursue.
Contacts
One thing about old job centers is that they have a lot of contacts with the employers that have jobs available. In the days before the internet, these old job centers functioned by establishing trust with employers and then allowing those employers to pick from their candidates for the positions that needed to be filled. Some job centers have become nothing more than job banks these days and they are not better than what the internet has to offer. For the ones that still operate through the building up of contacts however, it is still possible for them to help you out greatly.
Aggregation
If there is one thing that is annoying when it comes to looking through jobs on a job board, it would have to be the elements of aggregation that are missing. You get every single job that is available when searching on a job board. This is fine for searching through specialty jobs, but when you are searching for one type of basic job and you get every single one the board has to offer, it can be very frustrating. Job centers will not do that to you. They will aggregate information so that it is easier for you to manage, making it easier for you to make quick decisions about whether particular jobs are good or bad for you.
Advice
Finally, one last element that job centers offer that is worth mentioning here is advice. There are counselors available at job centers. You can confer with them in person and get direct advice about your particular situation. This is not something that happens on online job sites where a lot of the decisions you make are made specifically on your own.
